5 star ANCAP

The ŠKODA Yeti delivers safety without compromise. This compact SUV was awarded five stars by ANCAP for its exemplary safety features.
Electronic Differential Lock (EDL)
Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
Flashing Brake Lights
Airbags
Isofix anchoring points
Rigid Body Structure
Other Safety Features
Electronic Differential Lock (EDL)
On roads with different surfaces on each side, for example dry tarmac on one side and dirt or gravel on the other, the Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) enhances safety and performance. An electronic control unit (ECU) continually receives data from ABS wheel speed sensors on the driven wheels. If the ECU detects that one wheel is slipping, it applies the brake pressure to match its speed to the second, non-slipping wheel. This also directs the torque to the wheel with better traction, which is able to transfer more power. The EDL advantages are most obvious during acceleration or driving up the hill with low traction under one of the driven wheels.
Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
ESC or Electronic Stability Control, in all Yeti models, helps every driver handle critical situations by detecting and reducing loss of traction (skidding). The stability program uses the capabilities of ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation) and other special sensors to prevent slipping or locking the wheels. The principle of its function is limiting the engine torque; and braking the inner rear wheel in case of understeer, or outer front wheel in case of oversteer.

ESC provides significant help to the driver, but it still can’t overcome the laws of nature. The ESC will help the driver if the limits of grip are not exceeded on the wheels used to stabilise the vehicle.
Flashing Brake Lights
When braking hard from speeds above 60km/h, the brake lights start flashing automatically. After the Yeti becomes stationary, the brake lights stop flashing and hazard lights are switched on. After taking off again, the hazard lights are switched off automatically.

This measure reduces the risk of rear-end impact, especially when approaching the traffic jams on highways or sudden braking in front of the unexpected obstacle.

Airbags
The airbags act to prevent the contact of the occupant’s body with the rigid components of the vehicle. The new ŠKODA Yeti is equipped with seven airbags, including; driver and front passenger airbags, driver and front passenger side airbags, curtain airbags - front and rear and a knee airbag for the driver.

Isofix anchoring points

Isofix anchoring points on the rear seats ensure better mounting of the seats in the vehicle. This is important for enhanced safety in case of a crash.

Further anchoring points in the luggage compartment can be used for fixing the child seat by the Top Tether system, which reduces the rotational movement of the child seat around the anchoring points’ axis. In case of an accident, this helps to slow down the child’s forward movement. Top Tether is supplementary to the Isofix system.

Rigid Body Structure
High quality, rigid body structure is the essence of safety in all types of crashes. To achieve high durability of the monocoque, extremely strong materials were used, especially around the passenger area, where only minimal deformations are allowed.

The engine mounts are designed to prevent intrusion of the engine in the passenger area upon even heavier impacts. Other parts of the interior are also designed in a way to protect the driver and passengers in the case of an accident.
Other Safety Features
The ŠKODA Yeti is about safety without compromise and has been awarded five stars by ANCAP for its exemplary safety features. Added to the above mentioned safety systems, the following features are available as standard:

- ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) keeps the wheels from locking during emergency braking or when braking on slippery surfaces.
- By increasing the braking pressure, the Brake Assist helps drivers in situations in which emergency braking is necessary. This can lead to a significant reduction in required braking distance.
- The hill-hold control assist helps drivers start uphill safely. The system activates itself on inclines of five percent or more and ensures easy and safe uphill starting without the use of the hand brake. The system keeps the car from rolling backwards or stalling.
- The ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation) ensures smooth starting and acceleration without the wheels spinning on slippery surfaces.

Bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights and dynamic angle control

Bi-xenon headlights (included in the Tech Pack) with daytime running lights use projector modules with a xenon discharge tube for both low and high beam headlights. Low and high beams are switched by moving a shield in the projector module. Both low and high beams can swivel into turns. The swiveling mechanism is controlled electronically to optimally illuminate the corner. Headlights swivel into the corner at an angle of up to 15° (inner), or 7.5° (outer) from their straight-ahead position. The LED module of the daytime running lights (forming a strip on the bottom edge of the headlamp) not only has a longer life and lower power consumption, but also creates an elegant crystalline-design shape at the front of the car.

The below diagram (based on an overseas left-hand driven model) illustrates how the lights operate under different driving circumstances.
